# Country-based targeting

OptiMonk can segment your visitors by the country they are browsing from. The rule is called **Country** — *Geographic targeting*.

*With this condition, you can exclusively show or hide your campaigns for visitors who are coming from a specified country. If you want to show your campaign to every visitor, just remove all the countries from the selection.*

## How to set it up

1. Open **Campaigns** in the left menu and click the campaign you want to edit.
2. Open the **Settings** tab of the campaign.
3. Scroll to **Who should see the popup** and click **Add new rule**.
4. Pick **Country** from the list.
5. Decide which way the rule works. The first line reads **Visitors who**, and the dropdown next to it has two options:

- **are from** — the campaign is shown only in the countries you list;
- **are NOT from** — the campaign is shown everywhere except the countries you list.
6. Add the countries. Open the **Add country...** dropdown and pick one; the country appears as a chip above the dropdown. Repeat for as many countries as you need — every country is available, and a country you already picked is no longer offered in the list. To take one out, remove its chip.
7. Click **Save** in the modal, then **Save changes** in the bar at the bottom of the page.

On a campaign that is already published, the saved rule is pushed to the live campaign, so a targeting change takes effect without publishing again.

💡 You can also ask the assistant on the right to change this for you — for example *"show to Slovaks too"*.

## Good to know

- The visitor's country is **detected from their IP address**. Nothing has to be installed for it, and the visitor does not have to be identified.
- You have to list at least one country: saving an empty rule is refused with *Add at least one country.* If you want the campaign to reach everyone again, remove the whole rule instead.
- Targeting is **country-level only** — a city, region or postcode condition is not available in this version of OptiMonk. If you need one, use the classic OptiMonk admin for that campaign (account menu → **Go to classic admin**).
- Once saved, the rule appears as a card reading *Visitors who are from …* or *Visitors who are NOT from …*. Click the card to change it.
- Targeting rules are combined with **AND**, and each rule type can be added once — a Country rule already on the campaign is greyed out in the picker with an **Added** tag. Open the existing card to add more countries.
