# Engaged with OptiMonk Campaigns rule

The **Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns** rule — *React to how visitors met your other campaigns* — lets you control whether a campaign appears depending on how the visitor interacted with another campaign.

---

## 1. What is the Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns rule?

*Use the following option to display a campaign depending on other campaigns.* For example: once a visitor has filled in your welcome popup, stop showing it and show a different offer instead. Or the other way around — show a reminder only to visitors who closed the first campaign without signing up.

You can also target visitors by what they answered in a survey — see section 4.

## 2. Why use it?

🛍 **Make product recommendations relevant.** Recommending products that don't interest the visitor just adds noise. Ask visitors what they are interested in first, then use their answer to show the most relevant recommendation across your site.

⛔ **No more repeating campaigns.** There is nothing more annoying than filling out a signup campaign and having another one appear right after. If you run several similar campaigns, this rule keeps you from overwhelming your visitors.

👏 **Build loyalty and reward returning visitors.** Target visitors who already filled in a specific campaign and show an exclusive offer only for them.

---

## 3. How to set it up

1. Open **Campaigns** in the left menu and click the campaign you want to edit.
2. Open the **Settings** tab of the campaign.
3. Scroll to **Who should see the popup** and click **Add new rule**.
4. Pick **Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns** from the list.
5. Build the condition. Each row reads as one sentence, and starts with **If the visitor has**:

| Dropdown | What you pick |
| --- | --- |
| the interaction | seen , not seen , closed , not closed , converted in , not converted in — or filled a form , which works differently (see below) |
| the campaign | any , this , or one of your campaigns by name |
| the campaign type | campaign · popup · sidemessage · sticky bar · embedded |
| when | in this session or ever before |
6. Click **Save** in the modal, then **Save changes** in the bar at the bottom of the page.

On a campaign that is already published, the saved rule is pushed to the live campaign, so you don't have to publish again.

💡 You can also ask the assistant on the right to set it up for you.

### Which campaigns you can pick

The campaign dropdown offers **any** first, then **this**, then your campaigns by name. A few things worth knowing:

- **any** checks every campaign on the account **except this one**.
- **this** is resolved when the campaign runs — so if you duplicate the campaign, the copy points at the copy.
- The list is scoped to the campaign's own domain, and archived campaigns are not offered.
- When you name a concrete campaign, the campaign-type dropdown is locked to *campaign*: *Fixed to "campaign" while one campaign is named — that campaign already decides the message type.*
- A campaign that was deleted since the rule was saved is still shown, marked `[Deleted Campaign]`, so you can see what the rule points at instead of losing it silently.

### The "filled a form" condition

**filled a form** is a different kind of condition: instead of a campaign it asks about a value the visitor submitted. You pick the input field (**Select input**), an operator — **equals**, **doesn't equal**, **contains** or **doesn't contain** — and the value to match.

This is what makes survey-based personalization possible (section 4). The field list comes from the input fields on your account; if you haven't collected anything yet, the modal tells you the rule *needs the input-field list*, and saving without a field or a value is refused with *Pick the input field the answer belongs to.* / *Enter the value the answer has to match.*

## 4. Leverage OptiMonk survey data in targeting

If you want to understand your visitors better, collect preference data with onsite surveys. It gives you information about customer preferences and lets you deliver a personalized browsing experience.

1. Ask your visitors about their preferences with a survey or choice question in a popup.
2. Create a product recommender campaign for a given preference.
3. Use the Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns rule — **filled a form** — to target that recommendation at visitors who chose this preference in your survey.

---

## 5. Several conditions: AND and OR

One rule can hold several conditions.

- **Add AND condition** adds a row to the current group. Conditions inside a group are **AND**-ed: **all** of them have to be true at the same time.
- **Add OR group** starts a new group. Groups are **OR**-ed: the campaign shows when **at least one** group matches.

While there is one group, the block is titled **Campaign interactions**. Add a second and they are numbered — **Interaction group 1**, **Interaction group 2** — with *OR — matches if this group also matches* on every group after the first.

**AND example:** the visitor has *not seen* Campaign #6 **AND** has *converted in* any campaign *ever before*.

**OR example:** the visitor has *not seen* Campaign #6 *ever before*, **OR** has *not seen* any campaign *in this session*.

⚠️ A rule can hold at most **10 OR groups**. At the cap the button is replaced by *Maximum 10 OR groups — remove one to add another.*

Once saved, the card reads the same way as the row — for example *not seen any campaign in this session* — or *{n} campaign-engagement conditions* when there are several. Targeting rules are combined with **AND**, and each rule type can be added once: an existing Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns rule is greyed out in the picker with an **Added** tag, so add further conditions inside the card.

## 6. A note on campaign types

The campaign-type dropdown (campaign · popup · sidemessage · sticky bar · embedded) describes the campaign you are **reacting to**, not the one you are building. Campaigns built in this version of OptiMonk are popups — a card popup or a fullscreen one; side messages, sticky bars and embedded content are not available here. So the classic "fill in the popup, then show the offer in a sticky bar" setup only works if that sticky bar was built in the classic OptiMonk admin. Leave the dropdown on **campaign** if you don't want to filter by type at all.
