# Integrating OptiMonk with the WooCommerce e-commerce platform

Integrating OptiMonk with WooCommerce is simple, and you will be ready to show your campaigns in no time. WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin, so the admin page of your store looks like any other WordPress admin — and OptiMonk is installed the same way: with the OptiMonk WordPress plugin.

Depending on whether you use WordPress.org or WordPress.com, the admin page may look a little different, but the steps are the same.

---

## Step 1 — Install the OptiMonk plugin on your WordPress site

1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard, click **Plugins** on the left, then select **Add new**. Click the search bar and search for the word **OptiMonk**. You should see the plugin *Exit Popups & Onsite Retargeting by OptiMonk*. Click **Install Now**.
2. Click **Activate**.
3. After activation has completed successfully, you'll find the OptiMonk plugin in the list of Installed Plugins.

---

## Step 2 — Open the connection guide in OptiMonk

1. Log in to OptiMonk and open **Settings**, then the **Domains** tab. (The same page opens from the domain switcher in the left sidebar with **Domain settings** or **Install snippet**.)
2. If your store's domain is not on the list yet, click **Add domain**, type it in (*Type a new domain, e.g. example.com*) and click **Add**.
3. Click the domain row to open it. OptiMonk looks at your site and — when it recognises the platform — shows *We recognized your platform: WordPress / Woocommerce* with the steps of the guide. If nothing was recognised, you get the platform picker instead: under **Connect your website** → *What e-commerce platform do you use?* choose **Wordpress / Woocommerce**.

On a domain that already has the code, the row shows **Code inserted** and the platform it was installed with. Use **Change platform** there to open the picker again.

---

## Step 3 — Insert your OptiMonk ID

The guide shows your OptiMonk ID right in the step title: *Insert your OptiMonk ID number*. You don't have to look it up anywhere else.

1. Copy your OptiMonk ID from the guide.
2. Go back to the WordPress admin page, navigate to **Appearance** on the left and select **OptiMonk**. Insert your OptiMonk ID number into the OptiMonk WordPress plugin.
3. Click **Save Changes** to finish the setup.
4. Back in OptiMonk, click **Check now** at the bottom of the guide. When everything is in place, you get *The OptiMonk code is live on your-domain.com.* Checking loads your site once and looks for the code — it does not need visitors.

If it says the code was not found, make sure you saved your changes and that the page is publicly reachable, then click **Check again**.

---

## Step 4 — Make sure your cache plugin doesn't interfere

OptiMonk may not work immediately on WordPress sites because of a cache plugin. These plugins speed up websites by compressing and generating HTML files. To make sure OptiMonk runs smoothly and your campaigns appear, we strongly recommend:

- Add the following domains to the cache ignore list:

- Purge the cache on your website.

The same recommendation is shown inside the guide. You can quickly check whether your site is served from a cache using [https://cache-checker.com](https://cache-checker.com/) — any form of **Cache hit** means a cached version is being served.

For the plugin-by-plugin settings (Autoptimize, Comet Cache, LiteSpeed Cache, Nginx Helper, WP Rocket, WP Super Cache), see How to exclude the OptiMonk script from cache plugins in WordPress.

## Step 5 — Connect your WooCommerce catalog

If your store runs on WooCommerce, one more confirmation is needed so OptiMonk can read your product catalog. This is the last step of the same guide.

**The one-click way:** click the **Login** button and sign in to your store. WooCommerce generates the keys and sends them to OptiMonk. When it is done, you see *Connected — we can read your WooCommerce catalog.*

**The manual way** (use it if the login didn't work, or if the one-click option is not offered): under *Or enter the keys by hand,* paste a **Consumer Key** and a **Consumer Secret**, then click **Save**.

To create those keys:

1. In your WordPress admin find **WooCommerce** and click **Settings**.
2. Open the **Advanced** tab and find the **REST API** section.
3. Click **Add new**, name the key, choose the owner, and set the permissions to **Read/Write**, then generate the key.
4. Copy the generated **Consumer key** and **Consumer secret** into the two fields in OptiMonk and click **Save**.

If the keys are wrong, OptiMonk tells you: *Please check your consumer key and consumer secret.*

**Messages you may run into here:**

- *We have not seen WooCommerce on your-domain.com yet…* — finish the steps above and run the check; the one-click connection appears once WooCommerce is detected. You can still enter the keys by hand.
- *This domain is already connected to another shop on your OptiMonk account* — disconnect that one first, because connecting WooCommerce here would replace it.
- *Please install or update the OptiMonk plugin to the *[*latest version*](https://wordpress.org/plugins/exit-intent-popups-by-optimonk/)* first.* — the plugin is missing or too old.

**To disconnect:** click **Revoke** next to the stored Consumer Key. You are asked to confirm — *If you revoke it, we cannot update your product catalog.*
