# Running multiple campaigns on the same site

You can build as many campaigns as you like on one site — how many of them may be **active** at the same time depends on your plan. Either way, **sometimes less is more**: nothing sends a visitor away faster than a second popup landing on top of the one they just closed. This article shows how to keep several campaigns working together instead of competing.

---

## What you can put on the page

Campaigns come in two formats: a **card** (a popup shown over a dimmed page) and a **fullscreen** overlay whose background fills the whole window. What varies is what happens inside them — a plain email capture, a **Countdown timer**, a **Coupon code**, a **Survey** or **Choice group**, a **Lucky wheel** or **Scratch card**, a **Product recommender**, or a multi-step flow that asks a question first and only then asks for an email address.

Two fullscreen overlays in a row are the clearest way to annoy someone. A small card asking for a newsletter signup and a fullscreen offer on exit intent, on the other hand, can live together comfortably.

## 1. Give every campaign its own trigger and conditions

This is the most important rule, and the one that solves most collisions. Open a campaign, go to the **Settings** tab, and look at the two top cards:

- **When will the popup show up** — *After a delay*, *On exit-intent*, *After scrolling*, *After inactivity*, *On click*, *On a JavaScript event*. Several triggers on one campaign are combined with **OR**.
- **Who should see the popup** — 12 rule types, from **Country** and **Returning / New** through **Current page / URL** and **Source** to **Cart rules** and **Klaviyo lists and segments**. Rules on one campaign are combined with **AND**.

A good split looks like this: the welcome offer fires *after 5 seconds* for **new visitors** on **all pages**; the cart-saver fires on **exit-intent** with a **Cart rules** condition; the newsletter card fires *after scrolling 50%* on your blog URLs only. They can all be active at once and still never meet the same person at the same moment.

## 2. Decide who wins a tie with priority

If two campaigns really are eligible at the same moment, priority decides the order. Open the campaign, use the header's **⋮** menu → **Set priority** → **High**, **Normal** or **Low**. Everything starts at Normal; push the one campaign that must not be interrupted to **High**, and the nice-to-haves to **Low**.

See Campaign priority setting for details.

## 3. Cap how often each campaign comes back

Every campaign has its own frequency settings, in the **How often can it appear** card of the **Settings** tab:

- **Show at most***n***time(s) per visitor**
- **Wait at least***n***second(s) / minute(s) / hour(s) / day(s)between impressions**
- **Stop showing** — *after a visitor has converted* and/or *after a visitor has closed it*

*Frequency caps apply per visitor. Disable a limit by unchecking its box — the campaign can then show without that restriction.*

The two "stop showing" boxes are the ones that keep a visitor from meeting the same message over and over. Note that a **On click** trigger ignores frequency caps by design: a click always shows the campaign as long as the targeting rules match.

## 4. Let campaigns react to each other

The **Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns** rule lets one campaign look at what the visitor already did with another one — *seen*, *not seen*, *closed*, *converted in*, *not converted in*, *filled a form* — for **any campaign**, **this campaign**, in this session or ever before.

Use it to build a sequence instead of a pile-up: show the reminder bar only to visitors who **converted in** the welcome popup, or show the second offer only to those who **closed** the first one without converting.

---

## 5. Keep a whole-account safety net

**Settings → User Experience Protector** limits how often any of your popups may appear to the same visitor, across every campaign you run: *Makes sure your popups don't overwhelm or annoy visitors even if you run hundreds of campaigns with the boldest targeting.*

- **Safe** — *Optimizes for user experience, compromising on conversions if necessary.*
- **Normal** — *The best balance of conversions and user experience.*
- **Off** — *Protection is disabled. Your campaigns appear exactly as you set them up.*

If you run more than a couple of campaigns, leave this on. (The tab is available to the account owner.)

## A quick checklist before you add one more campaign

1. Does it have a **different trigger** or **different conditions** than everything already running?
2. Is its **priority** right relative to the others?
3. Are the **frequency** caps set, especially *stop showing after a visitor has converted*?
4. Would an **Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns** rule turn two competing campaigns into a sequence?
5. Is the **User Experience Protector** still on?
