# Subscribers / Non-subscribers

Canonical URL: https://support.optimonk.com/en/articles/subscribers-non-subscribers

You often want to stop showing a signup campaign to visitors who already signed up — and sometimes the opposite: show an exclusive offer only to those who did.

In this version of OptiMonk there is no separate *Subscribers / Non-subscribers* rule. The same thing is done with the **Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns** rule, which reacts to what the visitor did with your campaigns:

- **Non-subscribers** — *If the visitor has ****not converted in**** ****any**** campaign ****ever before***
- **Subscribers** — *If the visitor has ****converted in**** ****any**** campaign ****ever before***

***Important****: just like the old rule, this only knows about visitors who subscribed ****through one of your OptiMonk campaigns****. Someone who is on your list because they bought from you, or because you imported them, is not recognised.*

## Hide a campaign from visitors who already subscribed

1. Open **Campaigns** in the left menu and click the campaign you want to edit.
2. Open the **Settings** tab of the campaign.
3. Scroll to **Who should see the popup** and click **Add new rule**.
4. Pick **Engaged with OptiMonk campaigns** — *React to how visitors met your other campaigns*.
5. The condition row starts with **If the visitor has** and continues with four dropdowns. Set them like this:

| Dropdown | Pick |
| --- | --- |
| the interaction | not converted in |
| the campaign | any |
| the campaign type | campaign |
| when | ever before |
6. Click **Save** in the rule window, then **Save changes** in the bar at the bottom of the page.

On a campaign that is already published, the saved rule is pushed to the live campaign, so you don't have to publish again.

💡 You can also ask the assistant on the right: *"don't show it to visitors who already signed up"*.

### Show the campaign only to visitors who did subscribe

Use the same rule with **converted in** instead of **not converted in** — for example an exclusive offer for visitors who have already filled in your welcome popup.

### Narrow it to one campaign

Leaving the campaign dropdown on **any** covers every campaign on the account except the one you are editing. Pick a campaign by name instead if only that one counts — for example "don't show this to anyone who filled in the Black Friday popup".

**this** is the third option: it means the campaign you are editing, resolved when the campaign runs — so a duplicate points at the duplicate.

## What changed compared to the old rule

- **There is no list selection.** The old rule let you choose *any list* or a specific list. The new rule counts **conversions on your OptiMonk campaigns**, not membership of an email list, so the "which list" dropdown has no equivalent.
- **To target by list membership**, use the tool that owns the list. With Klaviyo, the **Klaviyo lists and segments** rule can show or hide a campaign for the members of a Klaviyo list or segment — see Klaviyo List & Segment Targeting.
- **You can also target by what someone answered.** The same rule's **filled a form** condition matches a value the visitor submitted (input field + *equals / doesn't equal / contains / doesn't contain* + value), which is often a better fit than "is a subscriber".

### If your campaign already has the old rule on it

A campaign that was set up in the classic OptiMonk admin can carry the original *Subscribers / Non-subscribers* rule. This editor cannot open it: it is shown as a card with the note *Managed in the OptiMonk admin — kept as-is, not editable here.* The rule keeps working and it is preserved every time you save from here — to change or remove it, open the classic admin (account menu at the bottom of the left sidebar → **Go to classic admin**).
