# Who to show? - Spent on pages

Canonical URL: https://support.optimonk.com/en/articles/who-to-show-spent-on-pages

The **Spent on pages** rule — *Seconds spent on current page* — is useful when you want to give visitors some time to look at a subpage before your message appears. You set the number of seconds a visitor has to spend on the **current** page to qualify for the campaign.

As the editor puts it: *Use this field to give visitors a certain amount of time to view the subpage before displaying the popup.*

---

## Set the rule up

1. Open **Campaigns** in the left menu and click the campaign you want to edit.
2. Open the **Settings** tab of the campaign.
3. Scroll to **Who should see the popup** and click **Add new rule**.
4. Pick **Spent on pages** from the list.
5. This is a very simple rule: one number. The row reads **Spent at least … seconds on the current page** — type the number of seconds (it opens at 10; anything from 0 to 3600 is allowed).
6. Click **Save** in the rule window, then **Save changes** in the bar at the bottom of the page.

On a campaign that is already published, the saved rule is pushed to the live campaign, so you don't have to publish again.

💡 You can also ask the assistant on the right — *"only show it after 20 seconds on the page"*.

## How the timer works

The timer starts when the visited page has loaded. While visitors browse your website they will probably open several URLs — different pages of your site — and the timer **resets and starts again on every new page**. So the rule is about the page the visitor is on right now, not about the visit as a whole.

If you want to measure the whole visit instead, use the **Spent on site** rule (*Seconds spent browsing*) — see Who to show? - Spent on site.

💡 There is a trigger that counts seconds too: **After a delay** fires the campaign once the visitor has spent X seconds on the page. The difference is what they are for — the trigger decides **when** the campaign fires, this rule is a **condition** the visitor has to meet for the campaign to be eligible at all. If you only want "show it after 15 seconds", the trigger is the simpler choice.

---

## Using it with other rules

You can put several rules on a campaign. They are combined with **AND**, which the editor shows as an **AND** badge on the rail between the rule cards: the popup appears only if **all** of the conditions are met at the same time.

💡 Example: *Spent at least 10 seconds on the current page* **AND** *Visitors who are from Germany* — the campaign is shown to German visitors who have been reading the current page for at least 10 seconds.

Each rule type can be added once: an already added **Spent on pages** row is greyed out in the picker with an **Added** tag. To change the number, open the card itself.
