Using Cart rules for your messages

If you have a Shopify, WordPress, or a Magento site, OptiMonk can automatically detect the content of the visitor’s cart and use this information for the display rules of the messages once the OptiMonk application is installed. This way you can display popups based on:

  1. the value of the cart
  2. The number of products in the cart
  3. The number of different products in the cart
  4. SKU
  5. Product Name
  6. Product ID

Cart rules are available from our Growth plan and up.

To set up a new rule, take the following steps:

  1. Log in to your OptiMonk account
  2. Select Campaigns on the left, then
  3. Select a Campaign you wish to edit or create a new campaign.
  4. Once you are on the Campaign Settings page, choose “Who should see the popup” and click on “Add new condition”:

  • Cart Value

  • The number of different products in the cart are default settings you can go on with:

You can also go wide and set up some more advanced segmentation options when taking a look at your source code. Don’t worry, it sound more difficult than it really is. :)

Some of the more advanced settings you can add here:

  • Product ID
  • Product Name
  • SKU

Let’s see how to set these up!
In this example I will use Product ID to demonstrate the setup proccess.

  1. Simply click on Add new on this screen:Ke_pernyo_foto__2020-05-27_-_16.20.57.png
  2. Right after clicking on it some extra information will be needed to go on:

Let’s see how to fill in this form.

When a visitor adds a product to the cart, a bunch of information is forwarded to OptiMonk automatically. This looks something like this:

Of course, this information is unique to each of your products.

If you want to check what information is forwarded to OptiMonk for a specific product, you can do so with the following steps using the Google Chrome browser:

Step 1.  Go to your store as a visitor, and add the product to your cart.

Step 2.  Once the product is added to cart, you will see the information forwarded by pressing F12 on your keyboard (or fn + F12 on Mac).

Step 3. Select Application in the new window, and select your own website under Session storage:

Step 4: Click on OptiMonkVisitorCart, then on the dropdown arrow to see the available information:

You can use this information to set up rules for your Campaigns.

Let’s use this example to set up a rule for the product ID:

You can use this information to set up rules for your Campaigns.

Let’s use this example to set up a rule for the product ID:Ke_pernyo_foto__2020-05-27_-_16.25.22.png

From here, you can use “product_id” to set up a rule for our product. You can see the “id” of the product is 32372867465260, so the rule would look like this:

Please also pay attention to upper and lower case letters when defining these values.

You can use any of the below information to set up rules just like this:

Of course, this information is unique to each of your products.

Please note that to use SKU for a Cart rule, you need to set SKU for your product(s) first in your Shopify admin page.
