Shopify customer tag targeting

You can use OptiMonk to target campaigns based on what tags are assigned to the customers in Shopify. This is useful when, for example, when you tag your registered users depending on whether they are wholesale retailers or regular customers. You can use the customer tag targeting to create specific campaigns for them.

If you are not familiar with Shopify's tags, you can follow this guide on Creating and using tags in Shopify.

OptiMonk uses the Custom variable Campaign rule for customer tag targeting:

Please follow the below steps to set it up:

1) Log in to your OptiMonk account at https://app.optimonk.com/login/en

2) Select Campaigns on the left, then click on the name of the Campaign you want to set up with customer tag targeting:

  1. Set _SHOPIFY_CUSTOMER_TAGS_ as the variable, which is the first field
  2. Select Text for the first dropdown
  3. Select Equals for the second dropdown
  4. Add the tag used in Shopify to the last field

For example, this Campaign will target the visitors who have the vip tag in Shopify:

Targeting users with 2 or more tags

You can also target customers with 2 or more tags. In this case, use the Plus icon to add another tag to the Campaign rule:

This will set up an AND relation for the tags, which means that visitors who have ALL tags at the same time will see the campaign:

Targeting users of multiple tags

If the campaign needs to target users of multiple tags, an OR rule needs to be set up. In this case, users who have at least ONE of the tags will see the campaign. You can use the Add new button to add another tag with OR relationship:

Listing the tags in one tag field also results in an OR relationship:

7) Once you are done, save the settings by clicking on the Save the Next button in the top right corner:
