How to set up conversational popups

Updated over a week ago

Conversational popups are a new and improved interactive tool for collecting contact information. You can ask your customers about their needs and preferences, then suggest personalized product recommendations for them to add to their carts. If you are interested to find out more about why they are useful, please check our article Why Your Remarketing Strategy Isn’t Working Anymore And How You Can Fix It

In this guide, we will show you how to set up a conversational popup Campaign. Please follow the steps below:

1) Log in to your OptiMonk account at https://app.optimonk.com/

2) Select New campaign on the right:

3) This will take you to our Template library. Select the Survey under Message type to easily find themes suited for conversational popups:

You can also find useful templates here.

4) Select a template you like and after choosing a domain where you want to use the Campaign, you will arrive in the Campaign Editor:

5) Start by setting up the design for the Main page, Page 2 and the Thank you page of your Campaign:

Keep in mind that we will need to duplicate Page 2 and the Thank you page to customize the offers based on the visitors' choice on the Main page. We want to achieve something like this:

You can find a lot of useful tips in our blog articles about Campaign design, such as this article.

6) Once you are happy with the design, click on the 3 dots icon on the top right corner of Page 2, and select Duplicate:

You need to create as many duplicates as the number of choices on the Main page:

For example, If you have 5 options for the visitors to choose from, you will need 5 duplicates of Page 2 in total, and also 5 duplicates for the Thank you page. I would also recommend Renaming the pages in the same menu to make your job easier later:

7) Once you have enough Page 2 and a Thank you page for each option, you can further customize the design based on the selected option. In the below example the first option is T-shirts, so I would recommend customizing the Thank you page for the T-shirts to offer products related to T-shirts. Again, this image should help you visualize what we want to do:

8) Once the design is ready for all the options, go back to the Main page and select the Survey Element:

You can edit the options for the visitors under the Options section on the right:

Select Custom step for On click:

9) Uncheck Same page for all options:

Now we will have the option to select where to guide the visitors based on their selected option:

10) Select their specific Page 2 for all the options:

11) We will need to edit the Button on the Page 2 pages so the button will guide the visitor to the correct Thank you page. Click on one of the Page 2s:

12) Click on the Button Element to see its available options on the right:

13) Select Jump to page for On click:

14) Select the proper Thank you page for the Chosen page:

15) Repeat the above for all the Page 2 duplicates you have created.

16) Once you are done, select the Teaser page, then click Save & Next or Save & Exit in the top right corner to save your changes:

Final notes:

On which page should I activate Campaign Goal Reached?

There is an option called Campaign Goal Reached for the Button Elements:

As we are using the Buttons to guide our visitors, you might wonder where to enable this option. Please make sure to enable the Campaign Goal Reached option on the page where you have the input fields and on the Thank you page it's not needed because we're not pushing through any more data there. If you duplicate the pages to set up the different paths for the visitors, your Campaign should be good to go as the Page 2 has this option enabled by default, and the duplication copies the settings of the original.

That's it! :) If you have any further questions or need any help, just let us know at [email protected], and we would be happy to assist you :)
