By default OptiMonk measures a campaign by its Submits — how many visitors filled out your popup. A conversion goal lets you measure something else instead: a visit to a specific page, a purchase over a certain value, or a certain amount added to the cart. Pick a goal once and every number on the Reports page — the trend, the campaign table, all the breakdowns — is recalculated against it.

Where goals live

Goals are managed on the Reports page, not in Settings.

  1. Open Reports in the left menu.

  2. Above the trend chart you'll find the goal picker (the target icon) and the Manage goals button.

Goals belong to a domain. The domain is the one selected in the workspace switcher at the top of the left menu, so switch workspace first if you manage several sites — a goal created here is only offered for campaigns running on that domain.

The goal picker

The picker lists everything you can report against:

  • Submit (default) — the built-in goal: a visitor filled out the popup. This is what is selected when you open Reports.

  • Order and Add to cart — built-in commerce goals, offered when OptiMonk can compute them for the domain.

  • Your own goals, in the order they were created.

Switching the picker changes the metric names too: the trend's Submits / Submit rate tabs and the Campaign Performance columns are renamed after the goal you chose.

Create a goal

  1. On Reports, click Manage goals. The Manage conversion goals dialog opens with the goals already on this domain.

  2. Click New goal.

  3. Fill in Goal name — something you'll recognise in the picker later (for example Reached checkout).

  4. Choose the Goal type. There are three:

    • Page visit

    • Purchase value

    • Add-to-cart value

  5. Fill in the fields for the type you picked (see below).

  6. Click Save.

New or changed goals may take a few minutes to appear in the analytics selectors.

Page visit

Track visitors who opened a particular page — a landing page, a thank-you page, a category.

  • Conditionis, is not, contains, does not contain, starts with, does not start with, ends with, does not end with.

  • URL — the page, for example /checkout.

With is, is not, starts with and does not start with, OptiMonk matches the full address on your domain, so type the path (/checkout) and OptiMonk completes it. With contains and the ends with conditions it matches the text anywhere in the URL, so a word like t-shirt is enough.

Purchase value

Track orders, optionally only the ones above (or below) a value.

  • FieldOrder total or Item count.

  • Conditionequals, greater than, less than, at least, at most, between.

  • Value — the number. With between you get two boxes, From and To; the upper bound has to be larger than the lower one.

Example: Order total · at least · 50 counts only visitors who ordered for 50 or more.

Add-to-cart value

Track visitors who put something in the cart.

  • FieldProduct price, Quantity or Cart total.

  • Condition and Value work exactly as above.

Example: Quantity · at least · 2 counts a conversion only when the visitor added at least two products.

Edit, rename and delete

Every row in Manage conversion goals shows the goal's name, a one-line summary of its rule, and a Primary badge when it is the primary goal of the domain.

  • The pencil icon opens the goal for editing.

  • The bin icon deletes it. You are asked to confirm, and deleting cannot be undone.

  • Click New goal at any time to add another.

Goals created in the classic OptiMonk admin still show up in this list and can still be reported against — but if their rule is one this editor doesn't cover (a custom event, a campaign event, or several conditions combined), opening it gives you the Rename goal dialog with the note: This goal's rule was built in the classic admin and can't be edited here — you can rename or delete it. To change such a rule, open the classic admin.

Using a goal on a campaign

A goal is not tied to one campaign — pick it in the Reports goal picker and every campaign on the domain is measured by it.

You can also set the goal a single campaign is judged by:

  1. Open Campaigns and click the campaign.

  2. On the Overview tab, use the goal picker on the right (next to the date range).

  3. The key metrics above change with it — Impressions / Submits / Submit rate for the default goal, Visitors / Orders / Order rate for Order, Visitors / ATC / ATC rate for Add to cart, and the goal's own name for a custom goal.

Choosing a goal here also stores it as this campaign's goal in OptiMonk, so it is what the campaign is compared on next time you open it.

What is not here

  • There are no Campaign conversion, Campaign impression or Campaign closed goal types — you cannot build a goal out of another campaign's events in this app. Goals like that created in the classic admin keep working and stay in your list; you can rename or delete them here, and edit their rule in the classic admin.

  • There is no per-button Campaign goal reached switch in the editor. Every submit of the popup is the built-in Submit goal.

  • There is no Duplicate action in the goal manager — create a second goal and fill it in.
