This article walks you through connecting SendGrid to an OptiMonk campaign. Once you are done, everyone who fills out your popup form is added to the SendGrid contact list you picked — no exports, no copy-paste.
Before you start: you need a SendGrid account and a campaign in OptiMonk whose popup is already built. The field mapping step reads the input fields straight from your popup, so there is nothing to map until the popup exists.
Connect SendGrid to your campaign
Open Campaigns in the left menu and click the campaign you want to connect with SendGrid.
Open the Integrations tab of the campaign.
Click Add integration. If the campaign has no integration yet, the same step is offered as Connect your email or SMS tool.
Provider step: pick SendGrid. It sits in the Popular row at the top, so you usually don't have to look for it — but you can also type into the Search providers… box. Accounts you have already connected are listed above the grid, under Your connected accounts.
Account step: choose a SendGrid account you have already connected, or fill in the credential form to add a new one.
Name (optional) — a label so you recognise this connection later. Leave it empty and the provider name is used.
API key — To locate your API key: Log in to your SendGrid dashboard. Click on Settings, then API Keys. You can create a new API key for OptiMonk, then copy that key here.
Click Connect. There is no separate "test connection" button: OptiMonk checks the credentials while it saves them, and if they are wrong, you get Connection failed — check the credentials right under the form.
List step: Pick the list or segment new signups should join. Use Search lists… if you have many of them, then click Continue.
Field mapping step: decide where each popup field goes in SendGrid (see below), then click Save integration.
That's it. Whenever a visitor signs up through your popup, they are added to the SendGrid list you picked.
Draft vs. live: if the campaign has not been published yet, the integration is shown with a Draft pill and the note Saved as draft — it goes live when you publish the campaign. On a published campaign the integration is applied right away and shows as Active.
Field mapping
The mapping table has two columns: Popup field on the left (every input your popup collects) and SendGrid field on the right. OptiMonk pre-fills the mapping with its own suggestions, so in most cases you only need to check it.
The email field is fixed — it always maps to
email.Pick Don't sync for any popup field you don't want to send.
If SendGrid returns its list of fields, the right column is a dropdown. If it doesn't, you get a free-text box instead, and the hint Type the exact SendGrid field or property name (e.g. first_name). Leave empty to skip a field.
A note on static fields. With most providers, you can send a fixed value with every submission (a campaign name, a source tag). SendGrid is one of the few where OptiMonk does not offer this, so the Static fields block is hidden on this provider — if you want to mark where a contact came from, do it with a SendGrid-side segment or automation instead.
Change or remove the integration
The Integrations tab lists every integration on the campaign with its list name.
Change list reopens the wizard at the list step, so you can pick a different list and go on to the mapping.
The bin icon removes the integration from this campaign: Remove from this campaign? The account connection stays and can be added again. Your SendGrid API key is not deleted, so you can reuse the same connection on another campaign.
