This article walks you through connecting Klaviyo to an OptiMonk campaign. Once you are done, everyone who fills out your popup form is added to the Klaviyo list you picked — no exports, no copy-paste.
Before you start: you need a campaign in OptiMonk (the popup has to be built, because the field mapping is read from the input fields of your popup) and a Klaviyo account.
Connect Klaviyo to your campaign
Open Campaigns in the left menu and click the campaign you want to connect with Klaviyo.
Open the Integrations tab of the campaign.
Click Add integration. If this is your first one, the same step is offered as Connect your email or SMS tool.
Provider step: pick Klaviyo from the provider list. If you have many providers listed, type into the Search providers… box. Accounts you have already connected are listed at the top, under Your connected accounts.
Account step: choose a Klaviyo account you have already connected, or connect a new one.
With the OAuth version of Klaviyo you only get a button: Continue with Klaviyo. You are redirected to Klaviyo to authorize OptiMonk, then brought back here to finish the setup. There you select the Klaviyo account you want to use and allow OptiMonk to read the information it needs (for example your lists and segments).
With the API key version you fill in the credential form. To retrieve your API key, log in to your Klaviyo account. Click on 'Account' -> 'Account Settings' -> 'API Keys' tab. Create a new API Key, then copy and paste it here. You can also give the connection a name (Name (optional)) so you recognise it later. Click Connect.
Which of the two you see depends on your account: the OAuth flow is a feature that has to be enabled for your OptiMonk account, and when it is on, it replaces the API-key version of Klaviyo. If you don't see Continue with Klaviyo, use the API key — both end up in the same place.
List step: pick the list or segment new signups should join. Use Search lists… if the list is long. Click Continue.
Field mapping step: decide where each popup field goes in Klaviyo (see below), then click Save integration.
That's it. Whenever a visitor signs up through your popup, they are added to the Klaviyo list you picked.
Draft vs. live: if the campaign has not been published yet, the integration is shown with a Draft pill and the note Saved as draft — it goes live when you publish the campaign. On a published campaign the integration is applied right away and shows as Active.
Multi-list campaigns (email-only / phone-only / both)
If your popup collects both an email address and a phone number, the List step can offer a Multi-list campaign checkbox: Send subscribers to different lists based on which fields they filled (email / phone / both). Turn it on and pick a list for each of the three cases:
Email + phone subscribers
Email-only subscribers
Phone-only subscribers
Leave any of them on Don't sync if you don't want that group forwarded. Multi-list is a feature that has to be enabled for your OptiMonk account, so it is not visible everywhere.
Field mapping
The mapping table has two columns: Popup field on the left (every input your popup collects) and Klaviyo field on the right. OptiMonk pre-fills the mapping with its own suggestions, so in most cases you only need to check it.
The email field is fixed — it always maps to Klaviyo's
email.Pick Don't sync for any popup field you don't want to send.
Under Static fields you can send a fixed value with every submission (for example a campaign name). Click Add static field, type the value on the left, and choose the Klaviyo field on the right.
The default field identifiers in Klaviyo are:
| Identifier | Meaning |
|---|---|
id | The visitor's unique identifier |
email | Email address |
first_name | First name |
last_name | Last name |
phone_number | Phone number |
title | Your position within the company |
organization | Organization name |
city | City |
region | Region |
country | Country |
zip | Postcode |
latitude | Latitude |
longitude | Longitude |
address 1 | First line of address, usually street number and name |
address 2 | Second line of address, usually apartment number |
Example
A popup that collects a first name and an email address maps like this:
First name →
first_nameEmail →
email(fixed)
With these settings only the first name and the email of your visitors are transferred to your Klaviyo list, and the contact in Klaviyo shows both.
If you also want to tag the source of the subscriber, add a static field — for example the value OptiMonk Summer Campaign into a Klaviyo property — and it will be sent with every signup.
Change or remove the integration
The Integrations tab lists every integration on the campaign with its list name.
Change list / Edit mapping reopens the wizard at that step.
Remove takes the integration off this campaign: Remove from this campaign? The account connection stays and can be added again. Your Klaviyo credentials are not deleted, so you can reuse them on another campaign.
Double opt-in
The OptiMonk campaign integration wizard has no double opt-in switch. Whether a new subscriber has to confirm their address is decided by your Klaviyo list's own opt-in setting. Klaviyo has a guide for it:

Phone numbers, compliance and consent
You can collect phone numbers either together with an email address or in a phone-only campaign — both are forwarded to Klaviyo, where the phone number is merged with the right profile.
💡 Klaviyo allows SMS communication only for contacts who have expressed their consent previously. You can see whether a phone number has consented on the contact's profile. Phone numbers and emails belonging to a profile have to consent separately. Learn more about how consent is handled in Klaviyo.
In the UK and Australia, merchants must have an alphanumerical sender ID before sending SMS messages, which can be set up in their Klaviyo account by switching on the SMS plan.
💡 Strict consent laws require merchants to include how SMS consent is handled in the terms of service and privacy policy, both of which must be displayed on the popup when customers give their email addresses. Your terms of service can be hosted by Klaviyo. Read more about how.
