You can integrate OptiMonk with your Shopify store in no time by installing the OptiMonk app from the Shopify app store. On Shopify there is no code snippet to paste: OptiMonk ships as a theme app embed that you switch on.

There are two steps, and OptiMonk needs both of them:

  1. Install the OptiMonk app on your Shopify store.

  2. Turn on the OptiMonk app embed in your theme.

1. How to install OptiMonk on your Shopify store?

  1. Log in to your Shopify store as an administrator. Choose Apps from the left column menu and click App and sales channel settings in the dropdown list.

  2. In the popup window, click the Shopify App Store button.

  3. Use the search field at the top to search for OptiMonk and select the OptiMonk app from the list. (You can also go straight to the OptiMonk app page.)

  4. Click Add app to install OptiMonk on your Shopify site.

  5. On the next screen, click Install app to finish the installation.

  6. Once the installation is complete, you are asked to log in to your OptiMonk account — or to create one if you do not have one yet.

  7. After logging in, a message confirms that your account is connected to your Shopify store.

  8. The last step is to enable the OptiMonk app embed in your theme. In your Shopify store, go to the Themes section and click Customize.

  9. Select the App embeds tab and turn the OptiMonk switch ON.

  10. In the top right corner, don't forget to click Save.

A few minutes of processing time is required after the app embed setting. During this time, you're free to close this window and keep on working in OptiMonk.

If you change the Theme in the shopify store, you have to enable the OptiMonk app embed again.

That's it :) You are now ready to use OptiMonk's on-site messages on your Shopify website.

2. How to enable the Shopify app embed from your OptiMonk account?

You do not have to do step 8–10 by hand — OptiMonk can open the theme editor and flip the switch for you.

  1. Log in to OptiMonk, click your name at the bottom of the left sidebar and choose Settings.

  2. Open the Domains tab. Every domain on your account is listed here, with Code inserted or Not inserted on the right of the row.

    If your Shopify domain is not on the list yet, type it into Type a new domain, e.g. example.com and click Add domain.

  3. Click the row of your Shopify domain to open it.

    • A domain that is not connected yet opens straight into the connection flow. If OptiMonk recognises your store it offers the Shopify guide (Connection guide); otherwise pick Shopify under What e-commerce platform do you use?.

    • A domain that is already connected shows the Platform it was recorded with. Click Change platform and pick Shopify to get the same guide.

  4. In the guide, open Enable the OptiMonk app embed on your Shopify theme. The OptiMonk app embed box tells you where you stand:

    • The OptiMonk app embed is turned on for {your shop}. — nothing to do.

    • The OptiMonk app embed is turned off for {your shop}. Turn it on to make your campaigns show.

    • We could not read the app embed state from {your shop} just now. This is on our side — you can still turn it on below, or try the check again.

    • Finish step 1 first — the OptiMonk app has to be installed on your Shopify store before the app embed exists.

  5. Click Turn on the app embed. This opens your Shopify theme editor with OptiMonk switched on — click Save there.

    If the button cannot reach your store you get We could not reach your Shopify store to turn the embed on. Open the theme editor and switch OptiMonk on there. Use Open the theme editor and do it by hand: Open your theme editor, go to App embeds, and switch OptiMonk on.

  6. Back on the domain, use Check now to confirm. Checking loads your site once and looks for the code — it does not need visitors. A successful check says The OptiMonk code is live on {your domain}.

    We cannot check the connection while your store is on the free Shopify plan, or while it is password protected.

3. Things to keep in mind when using OptiMonk on your Shopify store

❗ Installing the app does not forward your leads to Shopify. The OptiMonk app makes your campaigns show on the store. Sending the collected subscribers into your Shopify Customers list is a separate setting — see How to transfer your OptiMonk leads to Shopify?. Note that store-bound integrations are set up in the classic admin: the campaign's Integrations tab in the new app is for email and SMS tools.
