Connecting Ontraport to an OptiMonk campaign means every visitor who fills out your popup form lands in your Ontraport contact list — tagged, and optionally subscribed to a sequence. No exports, no copy-paste.

Before you start: you need a campaign whose popup is already built (the field mapping is read from the input fields of your popup) and an Ontraport account.

Step 1 — Get your App ID and API Key from Ontraport

  1. Log in to your Ontraport account. In the top right corner of the page, click your account name to open the drop-down menu, and choose Administration.

  2. On the Administration page, under the INTEGRATIONS section, select ONTRAPORT API INSTRUCTIONS AND KEY MANAGER.

  3. If you don't have an API key yet, click New API Key. Select a user as the owner of the key and enable the actions you want it to perform — make sure Add Contacts is checked. Give the key a name and click Save.

  4. On the API Keys page, copy the APP ID and the API KEY of the entry you want to use.

Keep the tab open — you will paste both values into OptiMonk in a minute.

Step 2 — Create your tags (optional, but do it now)

The OptiMonk wizard offers the tags that already exist in Ontraport, so create them before you start.

In Ontraport, open Settings from the Contacts section of the left-hand menu and click Manage Tags. Here you see all of your tags; create a new one with the New Tag button.

If you also want new subscribers dropped into a drip sequence, make sure that sequence exists in Ontraport too.

Step 3 — Connect Ontraport to your campaign

  1. Open Campaigns in the left menu and click the campaign you want to connect with Ontraport.

  2. Open the Integrations tab of the campaign.

  3. Click Add integration. If this is your first one, the same step is offered as Connect your email or SMS tool.

  4. Provider step: pick Ontraport. If the list is long, type into the Search providers… box. Accounts you have already connected are listed at the top, under Your connected accounts — pick one of those to skip the credentials.

  5. Account step: click Connect a new account, then paste the two values from Step 1. The form tells you where they come from: Sign in to your Ontraport account and click on the Administration option within the drop-down menu in the top right side of the page. On the next page, under Integrations within the ONTRAPORT API INSTRUCTIONS AND KEY MANAGER option you can add the new API key and ID.

You can also give the connection a Name (optional) so you recognise it later — handy if you connect more than one Ontraport account. Click Connect.

If the credentials are wrong, the wizard says so instead of saving: Connection failed — check the credentials.

  6. Settings step: this is where Ontraport differs from a plain mailing-list tool. Instead of a list you get two selectors, and both load their options from your Ontraport account automatically — there is no refresh button to press.

    • Tag — the tag every subscriber from this campaign gets. Required.

    • Sequence (optional) — the drip sequence new subscribers are subscribed to. Leave it empty if you don't use one.

    Click Continue.

  7. Field mapping step: decide where each popup field goes in Ontraport (see below), then click Save integration.

That's it. From now on, anyone who signs up through your popup is added to your Ontraport contacts with the tag you picked — and, if you set one, subscribed to the sequence.

Draft vs. live: if the campaign has not been published yet, the integration shows a Draft pill and the note Saved as draft — it goes live when you publish the campaign. On a published campaign it is applied right away and shows as Active.

Field mapping

The mapping table has two columns: Popup field on the left (every input your popup collects) and Ontraport field on the right. OptiMonk pre-fills the mapping with its own suggestions, so in most cases you only need to check it.

  • The email field is fixed — it always maps to Ontraport's email field.

  • Pick Don't sync for any popup field you don't want to send.

  • Under Static fields you can send a fixed value with every submission — for example a campaign name into an Ontraport property. Click Add static field, type the value on the left, and choose the Ontraport field on the right.

If you want to forward a piece of data that isn't there, the popup has to collect it first: ask the agent in the design chat to add the field (for example "add a phone number field"), let the popup rebuild, then come back to Integrations → Edit mapping and map the new row.

Change or remove the integration

The Integrations tab lists every integration on the campaign with the tag (and sequence) it uses.

  • Change list reopens the wizard so you can pick another tag or sequence, or redo the mapping.

  • Remove takes the integration off this campaign: Remove from this campaign? The account connection stays and can be added again. Your Ontraport credentials are not deleted, so you can reuse them on another campaign.

Check that leads actually arrive

Open Leads in the left menu. Every submission has a Sync status column:

  • Synced — the contact reached Ontraport.

  • Integration issue — the forwarding failed. Click the row to see the reason (Incorrect API key, Invalid list, Field mapping issue, Account issue, Subscriber already exists…) and press Retry to try again after you fixed the settings.
