The Dotmailer integration with OptiMonk adds subscribers to your Dotmailer address book when they fill out an OptiMonk popup form. It comes in handy if you run marketing campaigns regularly: everyone who signs up through a popup also gets the news about your upcoming promotions.

Where you set this up

The Dotmailer integration is set up in the classic OptiMonk admin. The Integrations tab of a campaign in the new OptiMonk app offers the providers its wizard can configure, and Dotmailer is not among them.

Everything else stays where you expect it: you design and build the popup in the new app, and you see the collected leads under Audience and on the campaign's Submits tab.

To open the classic admin: click your account button at the bottom of the left sidebar and choose Go to classic admin. You are signed in automatically, so you land in the same account.

Step 1 — Create an API user in Dotmailer

  1. Sign in to your Dotmailer account and click the Welcome button in the top-right corner, then click Manage Users in the drop-down menu.

  2. Click the API tab, then the Add user button.

  3. Fill in the password fields and click Save.

  4. Copy the email address Dotmailer generated for the new API user.

Back in the classic OptiMonk admin, open the campaign, click Edit settings, add the Dotmailer integration, and connect it with these credentials: paste the generated address into the Email field, enter the password you set for the API user, then test the connection.

Step 2 — Create an address book for the subscribers

To collect the subscribers coming from OptiMonk in their own list:

  1. Sign in to your Dotmailer account.

  2. Click Contacts, then My contacts in the drop-down menu.

  3. Click New address book.

  4. Give the address book a name and click Save.

You don't have to choose how contacts are added on the next page. Click Contacts → My contacts again and you see the new address book listed.

Back in the classic OptiMonk admin, click the Refresh button next to the list field, choose the address book you created, then click Ok to save the settings.

Step 3 — Mark the source with a contact data field (optional)

If you collect subscribers from several sources into the same address book, a custom field tells you which of them came from OptiMonk:

  1. Sign in to your Dotmailer account.

  2. Click Contacts, then Contact data fields.

  3. Click Add new.

  4. Give the field a name, choose Text as the data type, and click Save.

Back in the classic OptiMonk admin, click the Refresh button next to the custom field and choose the field you created in Dotmailer. Please note that there may be a slight delay: if the new field does not show up immediately, wait 30 seconds to a minute and try again. Enter the value you want to send — for example OptiMonk or Summer Ad Campaign — and click Ok to save the settings.

This is a fixed value sent with every submission, the same idea as a static field in the new app's integration wizard: the popup does not collect it, OptiMonk simply attaches it to every signup.
